The first high speed rail opened in 2003, and provided quick travel from London to France. It was a major success despite initial concerns about it being a possible for terrorist attacks.
Now the government want to go ahead with HS2, a railway which will provide a quick journey from London to Birmingham. There is serious opposition against this as well, but for altogether different reasons. I.E. cost and environment.
What is your opinion about the proposition for HS2; do you back it or oppose it?
I strongly oppose HS2. No one who would be using the system seems to want it anyway. These are mostly businessmen, who say that they use the time on the train to work, so cutting 20 minutes off their journey won't make a difference.
The track will cut through miles of countryside, destroying plant life, animal habitats, and the peace and quiet of the residence. It is also going to cost millions of pounds that the country cannot afford. Why not spend the money on improving the lines we already have? Or here's a better idea - lowering fares.
The only people who want HS2 are the tories, and they don't seem to give a damn what their country wants. They are just going to plough ahead with it anyway. So much for democracy.
